Relevance of Inverse Methods to Characterize Structure-borne Noise Sources: Application on an Industrial Case & Comparison with a Direct Method

The measurement of blocked forces of a structure borne noise source (a water pump) has been done directly using force sensors and using inverse method without force sensors. Specific test benches have been designed especially in order to favour each method. The comparison of both shows that the inverse method results are satisfying under some conditions. This article describes and discusses the settings and post-treatment to achieve a satisfactory result when an inverse method is used.
